Product Abstract: Also known as Nail Spice due to its shape, they are the unopened flower from a tropical evergreen that grows well in volcanic, loamy soil to a height of 20 meters. The clove buds are harvested when they’ve turned a pinky red color and are then dried in the sun until they turn dark brown and harden. Native to tropical regions of Asia and South America, they have originally been used by people to sweeten ones breath, as an incense and perfume, and as a flavouring in tobacco. It then took off in the Middle Ages as a culinary spice in the West and arrived in the United States in the colonial era. Today, it is used in Ayurveduc medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, western herbalism, dentistry, to treat nausea and indigestion, and in a variety of foods around the world, including popular warm spice blends found in the West like gingerbread, and pumpkin spice.
