Ingredients:
- 8 oz coconut oil
- 15 oz olive oil
- 11 oz palm oil
- 4.8 oz lye
- 11.2 oz distilled water
- Desired essential oil or fragrance
Preparation:
- Slowly add 4.8 oz of lye to 11 oz of distilled water and mix until clear. This will heat up rapidly and create fumes.
- Set lye solution aside to cool to below 130F, ideally between 120F and 125F.
- Measure out the palm and olive oils in a large, heat safe container and melt together in the microwave at 30 second increments until clear.
- Let oil mixture cool to below 130F, ideally 120-125F.
- Put an immersion or stick blender into the oil mixture and tap against the side of the container until there are no bubbles left trapped under the blade.
- When both the oil and lye solution are below 130F but within 10F of each other, slowly add in the lye solution to the oil while pulsing.
- Pulse the mixture several times and stir the mixture between pulsing. Add in the essential oil or fragrance after a couple of pulses.
- Once the mix has thickened and lightened in colour pour into the desired mold.
- Tap the mold a few times to remove large bubbles.
- Allow the soap to sit for 3-4 days and then unmold the soap.
- Cut into bars and let sit 4-6 weeks to cure and dry out.
NOTE: Use gloves, goggles, long sleeves, long pants and closed-toe shoes when working with lye and work in a well ventilated area.
