Cold Process Soap Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 8 oz coconut oil
  • 15 oz olive oil
  • 11 oz palm oil
  • 4.8 oz lye
  • 11.2 oz distilled water
  • Desired essential oil or fragrance

Preparation:

  1. Slowly add 4.8 oz of lye to 11 oz of distilled water and mix until clear. This will heat up rapidly and create fumes.
  2. Set lye solution aside to cool to below 130F, ideally between 120F and 125F.
  3. Measure out the palm and olive oils in a large, heat safe container and melt together in the microwave at 30 second increments until clear.
  4. Let oil mixture cool to below 130F, ideally 120-125F.
  5. Put an immersion or stick blender into the oil mixture and tap against the side of the container until there are no bubbles left trapped under the blade.
  6. When both the oil and lye solution are below 130F but within 10F of each other, slowly add in the lye solution to the oil while pulsing.
  7. Pulse the mixture several times and stir the mixture between pulsing. Add in the essential oil or fragrance after a couple of pulses.
  8. Once the mix has thickened and lightened in colour pour into the desired mold.
  9. Tap the mold a few times to remove large bubbles.
  10. Allow the soap to sit for 3-4 days and then unmold the soap.
  11. Cut into bars and let sit 4-6 weeks to cure and dry out.

NOTE: Use gloves, goggles, long sleeves, long pants and closed-toe shoes when working with lye and work in a well ventilated area.
