Ingredients:
- 8 oz desired wax eg, soy or paraffin
- Desired essential oil or fragrance
Preparation:
- Chop your wax or paraffin into small pieces and add to a double boiler or heat proof bowl on top of a large saucepan filled with boiling water. Put on the stove and heat on medium heat until melted, stirring every so often. Use a thermometer to ensure the temperature of the wax does not exceed 90°C.
- Once the wax has melted, add your desired oil or combination of oils. Remove from the heat and quickly prep your mold.
- Insert the wick by tying the wick to a pencil and sitting the pencil horizontally across the top of the mold so that the wick hangs vertically into the center of the candle. Pour in the wax to about 2cm from the top. The candle sometimes shrinks in the center as it cools, so you can add a little more wax if needed. You can use a hair dryer to remove any air bubbles or divots, and to smooth the top. NOTE: If you’re using a temporary mold, spray it with a little oil for easy removal.
- Cut off the wick and leave the candle for at least 24 hours before removing from the mold or lighting it if using a permanent mold.
- Alternatively, you can pour the wax into small molds of any shape and then use the wax in a wax warmer.
NOTE: Use gloves, goggles and work in a well ventilated area.
